KWARTMA Condemns Indiscriminate Parking and Violence Against Officers

The Kwara State Road Traffic Management Authority (KWARTMA) has condemned the indiscriminate parking of vehicles on walkways and the subsequent attack on its officers by some members of Porter's Porch worship center along Unity Road, Ilorin, on May 12, 2024.

KWARTMA emphasized that its officers were carrying out their duties to ensure traffic safety and management when they were assaulted and intimidated by some worshipers who claimed they were attending a Sunday service. The authority noted that the incident was an unfortunate manipulation of religion to mask a flagrant disrespect for the law and cause inconvenience for fellow citizens.

KWARTMA reiterated that walkways are meant for pedestrians and urged organizations, corporate bodies, and individuals to respect the law. The authority also clarified that its enforcement is devoid of religious sentiments and is in harmony with all religious bodies in the state.

The leadership of the affected church has apologized for the unfair and illegal manhandling of KWARTMA officials, and the authority has urged members of the public to obey traffic laws and disregard mischievous outcries aimed at whipping up sentiments and perpetuating impunity.

KWARTMA will continue to promote safety and efficient traffic management in the state and beyond, and has enjoined all road users to make walkways free from parking and market activities.
