In a significant bust, the Kwara State Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has seized 64 drums of petroleum product in Bokoro, Baruten local government area of the state. The interception was announced by NCS spokesman, Mr. Zakari Chado, during a public relations conference organized by the National Association of Polytechnic Students (NAPS) at Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin.
The conference, themed "Advancing Security in Nigeria within Social Context: Student Safety Matters," was held in honor of Kwara State Police Commissioner, Mr. Victor Olaiya. Chado lamented that the seizure came at a time when citizens were struggling to access the commodity at an affordable price, and expressed regret that smuggling persisted due to the involvement of youths.
The police commissioner, Mr. Victor Olaiya, emphasized the importance of security for development, stating that investors would not invest in an atmosphere of fear and anxiety. He cautioned students against joining syndicates that spread misinformation and urged them to verify information before sharing it. He also advised the youth to be obedient and avoid the unbridled quest for quick and ill-gotten wealth.
The seizure of the petrol drums is a significant achievement in the fight against smuggling and fuel scarcity in the country. The NCS and other security agencies are working to combat the illegal activities of smugglers and ensure the availability of petroleum products at affordable prices.
