According to Governor AbdulRazaq, the successful rescue operation is attributed to President Bola Tinubu's hands-on approach, who personally led efforts to secure the release of the abductees. President Tinubu had cancelled his scheduled trip to the G20 meeting in South Africa to focus on security breaches in Kwara and Kebbi States and directed heightened security deployments to the affected areas.
The Governor expressed gratitude to the President, security operatives, community leaders, religious bodies, and residents of Kwara State for their support throughout the ordeal. Specifically, he thanked the Office of the National Security Adviser, Department of State Services, Nigerian Army, Nigeria Intelligence Agency, and Nigeria Police Force for their roles in the rescue operation.
The kidnappers had demanded N100 million ransom for each of the 38 abducted worshippers. The attack on the church occurred during a prayer service, leaving some worshippers dead and an unspecified number abducted. The incident has highlighted persistent insecurity in vulnerable regions.
The released abductees are expected to reunite with their families after a harrowing ordeal.
